अच्छा जीवन जीने का जज्बा और कुछ कर गुजरने की तमन्ना जिस किसी भी महिला में हो तो सफलता की राह में चाहे कितने भी कांटे हों, कामयाबी हासिल कर ही लेती है। एक ऐसी ही शख्सियत हैं भारतीय महिला हॉकी टीम की कप्तान रानी रामपाल, जिन्होंने जीवन में आने वाली तमाम बाधाओं को तोड़ते हुए अपने सपने को पूरा किया।
रानी रामपाल का जन्म 4 दिसंबर 1994 को हरियाणा के शाहबाद मारकंडा में हुआ था। रानी के पिता आजीविका के लिए तांगा चलाते हैं,परिवार में भाई-बहनों में रानी सबसे छोटी हैं। द बेटर इंडिया मुताबिक रानी एक ऐसी जगह पर पली- बढ़ी, जहाँ महिलाओं और लड़कियों को घर की चारदीवारी में रखा जाता है। छोटी सी आयु में जब उन्होंने हॉकी खेलने की इच्छा ज़ाहिर की तो सभी ने खेलने से मना कर दिया। रानी ने बताया उनके पिता को लगता था कि - स्पोर्ट्स में करियर नहीं बन सकता, खासतौर पर लड़कियों के लिए ये खेल बिल्कुल भी सही नहीं है। रानी के रिश्तेदार भी उनके पिता को ताने देते और कहते ‘ये हॉकी खेल कर क्या करेगी? छोटी-छोटी स्कर्ट पहन कर मैदान में दौड़ेगी और घर की इज्ज़त ख़राब करेगी।’”
रानी ने तमाम दुश्वारियों को दरकिनार करते हुए खेल के क्षेत्र में करियर बनाने की ठान ली थी, वो अपने परिवार को एक अच्छी ज़िंदगी देना चाहती थी और घोर गरीबी से बाहर निकालना चाहती थी। रानी ने एक इंटरव्यू के दौरान बताया था कि उनके पास इतने पैसे नहीं थे कि वो हॉकी खरीद सकें। फिर उनके पिता ने
गांव की ही एकेडमी में डाल दिया, और उनके कोच ने रानी रामपाल के हाथों में हॉकी स्टिक थमा दी। इसके बाद फिर क्या था रानी दिन - रात हॉकी खेलने की तैयारी में जुट गई, उन्हें खुद पर यकीन था कि वो अपने सपने को जरूर पूरा कर लेगी। रानी ने 14 साल की उम्र में अपना पहला इंटरनेशनल मैच खेला। इसके बाद 2010 में 15 की उम्र में वो महिला विश्व कप में सबसे युवा खिलाड़ी बनी। उन्होंने 2009 में एशिया कप के दौरान भारत को रजत पदक दिलाने में अहम भूमिका निभाई, वह 2010 के राष्ट्रमंडल खेल और 2010 के एशियाई खेल के दौरान भारतीय टीम का हिस्सा थीं।
रानी बताती है कि मुश्किल समय में अगर कोई उनके साथ खड़ा रहा, तो वह थे उनके कोच, सरदार बलदेव सिंह। उन्होंने हॉकी किट देने से लेकर जूते खरीदने तक हर तरह से उन्होंने मेरी मदद की। रानी ने अपने पुराने दिन याद करते हुए बताया था कि तेज़ बारिश के दिनों में उनके कच्चे घर में पानी भर जाता था, और वे अपने दोनों भाइयों के साथ मिल कर, बारिश के रुकने की प्रार्थना करती थी। आज रानी की सफलता की बूंदों ने पूरी दुनिया में रानी का लोहा मनवाया है, जो समाज कभी ताने मारते थे आज उसी समाज को अपनी बेटी पर गर्व हैं।
